Pillars Of Cacophony is a project founded by Dominik in Graz, Austria in 2020. Musically, it encompasses an agglomeration of stylistic elements and influences, thus hardly fitting any metal genre-box. It comprises sharp dissonance, non-coherent rhythmical and structural arrangements and blast beats. Yet, all harshness aside, the underlying goal is to still preserve a continuous thread and reoccurring motifs. The lyrics revolve around scientific concepts and descriptive depictions of biological processes. Parts of Dominik’s PhD thesis are brought into an artistic context with certain degrees of artistic license, yet providing the listener insights into the realm of bioscience.

Today’s extreme Metal music is clustered with songs about occult and spiritual bullshit, violence and war, yet accusing monotheistic religions of being the ultimate evil. This paradox and hypocritical mindset results in obscure aberrations, where grown up men are howling into the woods to get in sync with their inner spirits, yet demonizing others for being indoctrinated. Thus, the concept behind Pillars of Cacophony is to pair extreme and dystopian music with lyrics that one can truly learn from. Knowledge is the best weapon against fearmongering and gaining knowledge is a noble aim to strive towards. As Dominik’s particular expertise relates to biosciences, he wants to tell the listener something he/she may never heard of before and hopefully spark a desire to dive deeper into the fascinating realm of empirical sciences.

The debut „Parerga“ is a concept album about the smallest units required to form life, pathophysiological processes, to the pits of despair and agony that hormone driven beings are prone to fall into. It was recorded by Dominik during the three lockdowns of the COVID pandemic. His bandmate Georg from Seduced contributed some lyrics as well as additional vocal tracks. To finish this DIY production, Craig (also Seduced) mixed and mastered the record. Dr.Winter was asked to do the artwork and he liked the album so much that he decided to release it with his non-profit label Teratogen. While working on the design, which is rather unusual for this kind of music, he also had the idea to contribute an intro with his experimental musick project Violență Domestică. „Parerga“ was released on 20 August 2020 as a six panel digisleeve with 12 page booklet. The album was well received in the underground.

The single „Hitchens“ was released on 13 April 2023. It marks the birthday of Christopher Hitchens, one of the original four horsemen of the „non-apocalypse“, who sadly passed away in 2011. Hitchens was at the forefront of the fight against religious fanaticism and hypocrisy and advocated secularism, rationality and reason.

The second album „Paralipomena“ was released on 28 March 2025, again as a six panel digisleeve with 12 page booklet by Teratogen, but this time in cooperation with grazil Records, another small label from Graz. „Paralipomena“ follows the lyrical concept of „Parerga“ and deals with the biological realities of life and disease and the tools scientists use to unveil them. Musically, there is more experimentation and the inclusion of musical styles beyond Metal. Except for the artwork by Dr.Winter and a guest guitar solo by Markus Steinrück, this time it’s a complete DIY production with everything done by Dominik.

The two albums „Parerga“ & „Paralipomena“ tell the story of the development of a young scientist and his encounters and confrontations with the many phenomena of life. They are the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one.
